Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's key rival Benny Gantz announced Sunday that he has resigned from the war cabinet, dealing a blow to the prime minister.
Gantz, a popular centrist former military chief, joined Netanyahu's government shortly after the Oct. 7 Hamas attack in a show of unity.
In a statement, Gantz said he had made the decision to resign after consultations with his Blue and White party.
"I have come to the conclusion that I can no longer serve in the government under the current circumstances," Gantz said.
Netanyahu has been under pressure to step down after being indicted on corruption charges.
